Salinas loves it when it snows!
For the past five years, the Salinas Public Library has brought "snow" to the residents of Salinas in one fun-filled afternoon of activities called Snow Day at the Cesar Chavez Library. What started out as a whimsical plan -- to bring snow to the youth of East Salinas -- is now an annual tradition that draws hundreds of children and families from all around Salinas.
"Many of the children we see in the library have never been to the beach, which is just a half hour away," says Librarian Luis Manzo. "Even fewer children have seen the snow, so this is a real unique experience for them."
The truth is so much more happens that day in addition to the fresh snow. The library offers indoor holiday activities, crafts, cookie decorating, traditional holiday sweets and more! This year the Paletero bicycle will also be giving out ice cream until supplies run out.
"We couldn't do this event without all of our wonderful staff and volunteers," says Kristan Lundquist, Director of Library & Community Services. "While it's a lot of work, it is definitely worth it," she added.
This year's Snow Day is Wednesday, December 18th from 12:00 - 3:00 pm at Cesar Chavez Library, 615 Williams Road. Bring your library card to join in on all of the activities, or plan on getting a card the day of the event. The lines start early, so don't miss out!
