It's Here! The grand opening of the El Gabilan Library
The Library and Community Services department is pleased to invite the community to the grand opening of the new El Gabilan Library on Saturday, February 22nd, from 12:00 - 4:00 pm.
Construction of the new 20,800 square feet library building on the same site as the previous 4,000 square foot library was completed within 18 months. The building was design by Anderson Brulé Architects with sustainability features that maximize natural lights, utilize highly efficient LED lighting and ventilation systems, and include native plants for outdoor landscaping. The construction was completed by Griffin-Swinerton developer and made possible through the public-private partnership between the City of Salinas with Public Facilities Group. The new library building has dedicated spaces for children, teens, and adults, in addition to an outdoor reading deck, multi-functional community room, group study rooms, a digital classroom, and a new makerspace.
The Grand Opening on Saturday will include a ribbon cutting ceremony with local and regional dignitaries, library tours, musical performances and activities throughout the day, as well as an opportunity for community members to borrow books and receive a commemorative library card. For more information about the day's events, please contact Cathy Andrews at (831) 758-7915.
