This year's Family Reading Circle program got underway last week with 23 adults and 40 children participating.  The theme for the first week's activities was "Let's Go Camping" and included a special story time by Librarian Cristela who joined the group in her homemade campsite, and encouraged children to share their own camping stories.  Artist and California State University Monterey Bay professor, Enid Baxter Ryce led the group in a painting demonstration where children learned to mix colors.  Each of the children made a beautiful, colorful canvas that they will use to create a camping storyboard. The next week's theme in this 4-week program is "The Animal Kingdom," followed by "Life at Home," and finally "Seasons and Cycles."

This Family Literacy Program is paid for through a grant from the California Library Literacy Services program, and is open to adults participating in the library's Literacy programs. The program is designed to help parents learn strategies to build a love of reading and learning in the home, and also to provide resources for parents to build home libraries.  The Family Reading Circle program is currently filled, but the Literacy Center accepts new students year round.  Please call (831) 758-7916 for more information, or complete this Interest Form.
