Once again, our Friends of the Salinas Public Library (FOSPL) is participating in the Monterey County Gives campaign.  This year's "big idea" will support funding for our "Meeting the Digital Divide" project which will lend internet hotspots to families at four low-income schools in the Salinas City Elementary School District.  Depending on monies raised, funds will also help purchase hotspots for the general public to check-out, and Chromebooks for participants who complete our computer literacy program.

"These efforts will be a game-changer for the students whose education is now happening remotely," says Ken Allen, President of the Friends of the Salinas Public Library.  The new program, which has received funding from the David and Lucille Packard Foundation of the Community Foundation for Monterey County, will begin distributing hotspots to families identified by the schools in January, 2021.

To make a donation, please go to the FOSPL  Monterey County Gives donation page.  All contributions are greatly appreciated!  If you happen to be a younger contributor, ages18-35, please indicate so when making a donation, and the library might become eligible to win $1,000 in additional funding!

FOSPL is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, whose volunteers raise funds primarily through book sales.  Their financial contributions to the Salinas Public Library help fund programs and purchases not within the Library's regular budget.  FOSPL also works to create public awareness of and community support for the Library system and its literacy programs.

Monterey County Gives! is a special project of Monterey County Weekly, in partnership with the Community Foundation for Monterey County and the Monterey Peninsula Foundation.
