September is Library Card Sign-Up Month!
As students in Salinas get settled into their new school routines, there is one essential school supply that requires no shopping and doesn't cost a penny - it's a library card.
Every September, Salinas Public Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide for Library Card Sign-up Month to encourage parents, caregivers and students to obtain a free library card that will save them money while reaping rewards in academic achievement and lifelong learning.
There is nothing more empowering than signing up for your own library card. Through access to technology, media resources and educational programs, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams and passions. The Salinas Public Library continues to adapt and expand its services to meet the evolving needs of our community by offering education resources and activities from early literacy programs and online homework help to GED and computer classes, helping to transform lives and enrich our community.
This year, DC’s Wonder Woman is embarking on a mission to champion the power of a library card as Library Card Sign-up Month Honorary Chair. In her new role, Wonder Woman will promote the value of libraries and encourage everyone to get their very own library card.
During the month of September, the Salinas Public Library encourages all Salinas residents to sign-up for a library card. Our digital library card provides 6-months access to all of the Library's online collections and resources. Sign-ups for a full-service library card which allows cardholders to request and borrow library items for curbside pick-up will begin within a couple of weeks. To help everyone participate during the Library Card Sign-Up Month, the Salinas Public Library will continue to waive any fees to replace library cards. For all library cardholders with fines on their account, the Library has also expanded its Read Away Fines Program to allow everyone to remove their fines by reading.
