Paletero bike gets a warm welcome at Ciclovía!
"I couldn't get half way down the block without a group of kids waving me down and wanting me to stop," says Librarian Sean Briscoe who took the Paletero bike out for the second year in a row to Ciclovía. The bike, which was motorized last year, travels about 2-3 miles an hour, and is part of the Library's efforts to reach out into the community. "They were all so excited to see the bike," said Briscoe, "and getting a free book brought lots of smiles too!"
This year's Ciclovía took place on Sunday, October 7th, and opened up a 1.6 mile stretch of Alisal Street, from Main Street to Sanborn Street, to allow the community to enjoy live music, dancing, sports activities, and biking. Now in its 6th year, Ciclovía is completely produced by local youth who spend nearly a year planning the event, and is sponsored by the City of Salinas. Ciclovía is a Spanish term meaning “bike path”.
