Summer Learning Challenge Wraps Up!
We were thrilled to see that this Summer's Learning Program "Reading Colors Your World" was a huge success! Combining both in-person and virtual programs, a total of 1,471 youth and adults participated in programs, and 731 signed up for summer reading. We also gave away 740 books as reading prizes!
One of our well-received programs was "Storytime in the Park" which included an outdoor storytime at three local parks, and was attended by 468 parents and children. We also offered 10 take-home activity kits throughout the summer for youth and adults. A total of 1,834 kits were distributed.
The Summer Learning Program also included a Graphic Novel Contest, preceded by four workshops with published authors and illustrators, and the fourth year of providing a Kinder Boot Camp for incoming kindergarten students without experience in a pre-school or pre-K program. We also served 4,264 to-go lunches and snacks at Cesar Chavez Library.
"Despite the Covid-related restrictions, we were delighted by the turnout we received for our programs over the summer," said Ernesto Lizaola, Community Education Manager.
