Elephant and Piggie made a fun and "rigorous" entrance last Friday night to a room full of eager kindergarten children at John Steinbeck Library. Small feet were definitely moving as the two friendly characters from the popular series "Elephant and Piggie" greeted the children with a few original dance steps of their own!

More than 120 kindergarten children and 600 family members participated in Kinder Nights, which were hosted at both Cesar Chavez Library on Wednesday, September 26th, and at John Steinbeck Library on Friday, September 28th from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Kinder Night is a special program for kindergarten children and their families aimed at introducing the range of library services offered, and encouraging book checkouts throughout the school year. Kindergartners enjoyed doing hands-on activities with their families, making crafts, winning prizes and eating fresh fruit and cake together.

Kinder Nights is the culminating event for our Kindergarten Library Card Campaign which takes place every September in conjunction with the American Library Association's "September is Library Card Month" campaign. This year the library issued 1546 new library cards to kindergarten children during the month of September, and will continue issuing new cards through next month.
