Author Sandra E. Bonura's book The Sugar King of California: The Life of Claus Spreckles is a compelling biography that tells the story of Claus Spreckels' role in developing the sugar industry in California and Hawaii, prevailing in a time rife with cronyism and corruption and transforming farming, industry, and labor in the Salinas Valley and beyond. 

Partnering with The National Steinbeck Center, we present accomplished author Sandra E. Bonura, a historian, researcher, and retired professor of education and school counseling. Join us as the author presents a colorful & interactive slideshow on the life of Claus Spreckels and signs purchased copies of her biography The Sugar King of California: The Life of Claus Spreckels.
