"Be Safe, Be Healthy and Be Thankful" was the theme for the Salinas Public Library's Literacy Program celebration last Tuesday, November 24th.  Families who participated in the Families For Literacy virtual programming over the past several months were rewarded for their commitment and participation in a drive-thru celebration where they received books, activities, and healthy snacks to help them celebrate the holidays safely at home.  Most participants drove, some arrived on foot, and one adult arrived by bus in order to attend the event.

The Literacy team is truly thankful for the dedication of these families, and their commitment to lifelong learning and literacy. Staff distributed books and gift packs to 168 adults and children, 63 snack and activity packs, and 100 bags with high quality, age-appropriate books for families to enjoy. The celebration also became an outreach event as passers-by stopped in to find out what was happening and to get information on all of the library's ongoing programs.  Funds for this program are provided through a grant from the California Library Literacy Services
