Salinas Public Library's Literacy Assistant Susanna Crichton hosted a training May 9th for tutors at the Monterey County Free Library on how to use comics to teach reading. She believes that graphic novels can help adults with overall comprehension, left-to-right tracking for reading, vocabulary, social and emotional cues as well as a sense of accomplishment because the books tend to be shorter.
