Salinas Public Library Unveils a New Bookmobile
Salinas Public Library is happy to announce the arrival of a new bookmobile that is guaranteed to bring books and smiles to Salinas residents!
The new, state-of-the-art bookmobile was funded by a grant from the California State Library's Shared Vision Initiative in support of mobile library solutions, and a generous grant from the Monterey Peninsula Foundation. The new bookmobile will replace an older vehicle and provide reliable transportation to support our KinderMobile program and outreach events.
"The new bookmobile promises to excite readers of all ages, but especially kindergarten students who are beginning their reading journey" says Ernesto Lizaola, Community Education Manager. Prior to the Covid shutdown, the KinderMobile had been serving kindergarten students by making monthly visits to nearly 30 schools throughout Salinas. During the last three school years, the KinderMobile checked out over 63,000 books to young readers. This bookmobile will also reach community members through outreach events allowing residents to checkout books, obtain a new library card, participate in programs, or utilize the on-board Wi-Fi. The new bookmobile has the capacity to hold 33% percent more books than the older one.
The bookmobile was viewed by the Mayor and City Councilmembers on Tuesday, September 21st from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at their regular council meeting, and will be on display for the larger community on October 2nd at the Community Resource Fair at Sherwood Park from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
