Celebrating our Friends
Everybody needs a friend, and Friends of the Salinas Public Library (FOSPL) are an especially important group of people when it comes to our library's mission and values. During "National Friends of the Libraries Week" we want to especially acknowledge all that FOSPL has done to make a difference in our community and support our library. Special shout out to President Ken Allen, and all of the FOSPL board officers, and FOSPL members for their dedication and commitment over the past years which has helped create community support and public awareness for our library system, and has raised significant funds for special projects.
FOSPL operates the "Corner Bookshop" at the John Steinbeck Library and sells books online through Amazon. Proceeds from book sales, along with their effort to raise funds through grants and fundraising events, contribute to our Summer Reading Program, helps to buy books and materials for the KinderMobile, and supports other literacy programs. During the construction of the El Gabilan Library, FOSPL helped raise more than $40,000 for the outdoor learning spaces and book collections.
FOSPL members stock several "Little Libraries" in the community to encourage reading in Salinas. These can be found in many of our City parks, including Claremont Park, Central Park, El Gabilan Pocket Park, McKinnon Park and Maple Park. FOSPL also advocates for the library by making presentations to local organizations, such as Rotary Clubs, in order to promote library programs, services, and further the library’s mission.
We invite everyone to be our Friends! FOSPL always welcomes new Friends by becoming an annual member for only $15 a year, or a lifetime member for only $125. For more information, please visit their website.
