September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when libraries nationwide join together to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step towards academic achievement and lifelong learning. The Salinas Public Library believes that a library card is one of the most important school supplies a child can have!

If you or your child does not have a library card, get a new (and free!) library card at any of these branch libraries: John Steinbeck Library, Cesar Chavez Library, or the Library Connection @ Northridge. As part of this month's library card sign-up campaign, you can also get a replacement library card for free. If you have lost your library card, you can come into the library during the month of September and we'll waive your replacement card fee!

Help the library spread the word about the value of libraries this September by snapping a picture with your library card and posting it to Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #GetLibraryCarded.  You will automatically be entered in a drawing to win a $100 Visa gift card!  Entries can also be submitted by posting as a comment or wall post on the I Love Libraries Facebook page.  Don't forget to cover up any personally identifiable information! The promotion ends Sunday, September 22. Librarians and library lovers are encouraged to participate.
