“The Movement” is the first oral history of the decade that built the modern feminist movement, telling the intimate inside story through the voices of those who lived it. It traces women’s awakening, organizing, and agitating between 1963 and 1973, when a decentralized collection of people and events sparked a cultural revolution. From an underground abortion network, to Shirley Chisholm’s presidential campaign and Billie Jean King’s 1973 battle of the sexes, Clara artfully weaves together the fragments of this explosion, bringing to life the emotions of a personal, political, and cultural revolution, where women demanded to be treated as first-class citizens and, in the process, changed the fabric of American life.
