Summer Fun with Literacy!
Literacy celebrated the Summer Solstice and official start of the season with a fun-filled Stress-Free Summer Festival at El Gabilan Library. The program was open to the public and attendees enjoyed tacos, shaved ice, yoga, an obstacle course, games, puzzles, crafts... suffice to say we got Summer off to a great start!
All of our Adult Literacy participants with children aged 0-18 can take advantage of our regular Families For Literacy (FFL) services. These include free tablets for children, our biannual Family Reading Circle, monthly story time program, and two special events each year where we open our doors to the public. Our FFL program is committed to, 'Helping families help their children succeed'. We recognize parents and caregivers as their children's first and most trusted educators and provide opportunities for families to share their knowledge, experience and struggles in a supportive environment. We also love books and see every FFL program as an opportunity to find them good homes! We distributed over 250 adult and children's books at our summer festival, and hope to match that over the next three weeks during our Family Check-In events. At these events, 20 of our FFL families will gather together to relax, watch their children play, and take part in a used book swap. Each week will have a theme and families will take home crafts to enjoy, engage in our online Google Classroom, and share ideas for keeping their kiddos engaged over summer.
