What needs to be included in my application?
Your submitted application must include the following:
- One or two original poems showing excellence in content, craft, and voice, totaling no more than 10 pages typed. Please be sure your written work is spell-checked.

If I win, how will I receive the prize?
A scholarship cash prize in the form of a check will be issued to you or one of your parents or legal guardians by May 1, 2021.
What is the judging process?
The 2021 Youth Poet Laureate will be the poet who scores the highest total number of points. The Vice Laureate will have the 2nd highest score based on the following criteria:

There are five judges, representing a diverse group of experts from literacy, arts and educational organizations as well as local artists and activists.
When will the winner be announced?
The new Youth Poet Laureate will be notified by Friday, April 9, 2021, and will be publicly announced at the virtual Salinas City Council Meeting on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.
