Storytimes

Learn and Play Storytime: For ages 0-4. Young children enjoy books, songs and rhymes and special activities at the end.

Storytime Jamboree: For all ages. The entire family can enjoy stories and songs together.

Spotlight Storytime: For ages 0-6. Join us for stories, songs, and a themed craft as we celebrate a new theme every month.

Toddler Tales: For ages 0-3. This bilingual storytime offers stories, songs and rhymes.

Homework Centers

The purpose of the Library’s Homework Centers is not only to help students complete their school assignments but to foster curiosity, a passion for learning and to help students become successful in school and in life. Our homework centers are located at the following sites: Cesar Chavez Library, Los Padres Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, and Sherwood Elementary. Registration is required.

Early Literacy

Playing together strengthens the relationship between you and your child. Read stories, sing songs and have fun as you and your child socialize with others. Check out all of the opportunities we have available to read, grow and play together.

Sheriff Nesbitt Home
66 Capitol Street

Sheriff Nesbitt was Sheriff Quinn in East of Eden. The house was built in 1881, the same year Nesbitt married Frances Dunham. In 1882 he was elected Marshall of Salinas City. He was elected County Sheriff in 1902. He retired in 1923 and died in 1933.

Built in 1895-96, the building was used for many events such as basketball games and proms, in addition to being the home of California National Guard Troop C. The young man whose death so upset Steinbeck's mother in East of Eden, Martin Hopps, joined Troop C because the armory had a basketball court.
