The Salinas Public Library is delighted to announce that the new El Gabilan Library has received a prestigious engineering award for its construction and design!

The Engineering News Record (ENR) recently named El Gabilan Library a Northern California 2020 Merit Award Winner in the Cultural/Worship category.  Perhaps one of the reasons for receiving the award was the unique curvature of the building that is especially designed to maximize use of the lot. As one of the construction foreman from Swinerton Builders noted, "There wasn't one straight line in the entire building.  Everything had to be laid out precisely, and we relied on computer software extensively to get it right."

Congratulations also to the Salinas Police Department which won an ENR Best Project Award in the Government/Public Building category for its new headquarters.
