A Year to Celebrate
As 2024 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the milestones we’ve reached in the Literacy Program. This is our 40th year of hard work, growth, and heartfelt celebrations—proof that our learning community is thriving!
This fall, our third annual Fall Family Festival was our best-attended yet. Over 330 guests joined us at El Gabilan Library for an afternoon of games, crafts, and stories. The highlight? More than 500 books found their way into home libraries, sparking joy and a love for reading. We couldn’t have done it without the amazing students from La Paz Middle School’s AVID program, who worked tirelessly to ensure the event ran smoothly.
Our Adult Literacy learners and volunteers have also inspired us throughout 2024. At our year-end gathering, we celebrated their achievements over hot chocolate, cookies, and conversation. Computer Class graduates proudly received their diplomas and shared their work in a special presentation. Citizenship students and Individual Tutoring participants joined us to share their hopes and goals for the coming year.
Speaking of Citizenship, we’re thrilled to celebrate seven program graduates who passed their naturalization tests this December. Congratulations to Evaristo, Maria Angelica, Juan, Veronica, Karely, Ma Lourdes, and Lizbeth!
While classes are on a brief pause for the holidays, our team is already preparing to dive back in this January. A task made easier by the new staff who joined us in 2024. Welcome Soraya, Ruben, Valeria and Jennifer.
From all of us on the Literacy Team: Happy Holidays, and here’s to another incredible year ahead!
