Current Comics Sponsors Readerman Contest

Local comic store, Current Comics, is NOW sponsoring the Readerman comic contest. TEENS are invited to create a comic (any length) that tells a story about Readerman. The winner receives $100. Deadline for contest submission is August 15th. For more details about this and other TEEN contests click HERE.

Who is Readerman? Readerman is the superhero that has protected Salinas readers and the Salinas Public Library for over 100 years!

This summer Salinas Public Library is offering TEENS the opportunity to create comics at the library using ComicLife software. This software is a fun and easy way to make comics.

Crazy Techie Summer is for TEENS!

This FREE program includes three contests and many technology workshops. Contest winners receive $100 cash! Workshops provide the tools needed to enter and win these three contests. It makes perfect sense. Check out more information and join us at the library this summer.

Summer 2010: Contests & Events FOR TEENS

Salinas Public Library is mixing creativity and technology! This summer teens are going crazy with iPads, Apple computers and digital camcorders. There are THREE Digital Art Contests with $100 cash prizes and many workshops for digital photography, comic creation and filmmaking. Salinas teens are invited to checkout the FREE activities happening this summer!

Contests With $100 Cash Prizes

Salinas Public Library proudly announces THREE unique digital art contests for Teens! If you are between the ages of 13 - 19 you can enter to win the following contests:

1) Capture Salinas Photo Contest

Share your best digital photograph that captures Salinas

2) Salinas Teen Film Contest

Enter an original short film on a theme of your choice

3) Readerman Comic Contest

Tell the story of Readerman as a digital comic (Sponsored by Current Comics)


All contest entries must be submitted by August 15th, 2010 (midnight deadline). Entries should be submitted by email to: bjornthelibrarian(at) Please include your name and phone number. Send graphics and photos as an email attachment. For video submissions please post online (example, YouTube) and email video link.

  • All participants must be between the ages of 13 and 19 years of age
  • Teens may participate in all three contests, but only one submission per teen per contest
  • Selected entries will be exhibited at the library and on the library website
  • Winners announced on August 21th, 2010
  • Cash prizes must be claimed at the library

FREE Workshops For Teens

There are loads of hands-on technology workshops happening for teens. These workshops are actually designed help teens create prize winning digital art! Topics covered include digital photo sytlizing, digital comic creation and digital video editing. Due to the hands-on nature of these workshops space is LIMITED. Please signup online today!

Crazy Techie Summer Finale

There will be two finale events! Both events will provide local teens the opportunity to showcase their digital art. The THREE contest winners will be announced on August 21st and August 28th.

The YA Lounge is located at the John Steinbeck Library. It is a place for teens to play games, read, do homework or just hang-out.  The library space was designed by teens for teens.  A focus group of local teens provided their input and helped create this relaxing space.  Drop by the Teen Lounge and let us know what you think.
