Congratulations to Family Reading Circle Participants!
While it could not be facilitated in a large gathering, families came out nonetheless to El Gabilan Library last Friday, June 12th, to receive their graduation certificates. They were also able to collect a reading package for a new virtual Summer Reading Program called "Get on Board, Families!" which will host weekly virtual activities for families through July 31st.
First 5 of Monterey County also generously donated diapers for families that needed them. In total, 65 boxes of diapers, and 81 packs of baby wipes were distributed curbside to families currently registered in the library's Families for Literacy program.
"We had 20 families graduate from the first Virtual Family Reading Circle, and we are very happy with the feedback we received," says Margarita Medina-Romero, Literacy Coordinator. One parent shared that when her child received a book in the mail, he was so excited he thought it was better than Christmas. Families received a graduation gift that contained art supplies and books to help them get started in Literacy's "Get on Board, Families!" summer program. The next orientation for the program is Wednesday, June 17th.
