Salinas Public Library will allow cardholders age 21 and under to get rid of library fines this summer by reading them away. For every day spent reading, $5 in fines will be removed from the card holder's account.

"We want to find a way to both encourage youth to join our Summer Reading Challenge, and make it easy to clear fines from their card so that they can actively borrow more items from the library," says Kristan Lundquist, Library & Community Services Director.  "We know times are tough economically for parents.  We hope children and young adults will take advantage of this opportunity and start the new academic year with an active library card."

To participate in the program, children, teens and young adults up to age 21 must complete this form, or get help from a parent to do so. Library staff will review the form and provide notification when the fines have been removed from the participant's account.
