El Gabilan Library
Services at El Gabilan Library:
- 2-story universally accessible public library facility housing collections for all ages and in a variety of formats such as books, newspapers, DVDs, music CDs, Library of Things, and more
- A large Spanish-language collection for all ages
- Friendly library staff members posted on the floor available to provide excellent customer service for locating information, troubleshooting brief technology questions, and recommending materials
- Free public Wi-Fi, public computers, a copier, a fax machine for free faxing, and print-by-phone compatible printing through Princh
- Community Resources and Events postings (pending supervisor approval and postings advertising free subject matter)
- Four study rooms available for reservation up to one week in advance (including a small conference room)
- One quiet study room available to the public with no reservation needed
- Community meeting room available for facility rental
- 2F Outdoor patio space with sun umbrella
- Digital Arts Studio computer lab with Adobe Suite, a Wacom tablet, and more
- Teen/Youth-only space featuring study areas, in-library use only videogames, and popular manga
- Nintendo Switch and XBOX available for in-library use (ages 18 and under + their caregivers). In-library videogame selection varies by site
- Children's area equipped with early literacy computer stations, Roblox & ABCMouse access, and large play spaces
- Outdoor garden area for children with small interactive play structures
- CA Adult Literacy Program and Citizenship Program information
Room Reservations:
Study Rooms
El Gabilan Library offers four study rooms including a small conference room available for public reservation during open service hours. Click here to reserve a study room up to one week in advance.
- Reservations are limited to two (2) hours per party, per day, to ensure equitable access of the library facility. Excess reservations may be cancelled by library staff without notice.
- Reservations will be canceled if the party is greater than 15min late.
- Occupancy may not exceed the posted maximum for each room.
- Vacated study rooms are open for all to use until the next scheduled reservation.
- No food is allowed in the study room. Drinks must have lids.
- Please be considerate of others and clean up before leaving the study room.
Community Meeting Rooms
A community meeting room is available at El Gabilan Library that may be reserved for public use when not being used for Library activities. Fees may be charged according to the current Library Fee Schedule.
The El Gabilan Library Community Room has a capacity of 184 people. Download the room application here.
Another community meeting room is also available at Cesar Chavez Library.

El Gabilan Library selected for a Community Impact Award
On September 16th, the El Gabilan Library received the Community Impact Structures Award from the Silicon Valley Business Journal in a virtual awards ceremony. The awards recognize the "best of the best" in real estate projects throughout Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey County. The library was selected for its outstanding design, its impact on the community, and for the successful partnership between the City of Salinas and Griffin | Swinerton .

The Salinas Public Library is delighted to announce that the new El Gabilan Library has received a prestigious engineering award for its construction and design!
The Engineering News Record (ENR) recently named El Gabilan Library a Northern California 2020 Merit Award Winner in the Cultural/Worship category. Perhaps one of the reasons for receiving the award was the unique curvature of the building that is especially designed to maximize use of the lot.
