Middle & High School Fiction Awards

The Salinas Union High School Presents "Flights of the Imagination," middle school and high school fiction awards. The winning stories will be performed by students from the theatre program at North Salinas High School.
Craft Event for Teens & Adults

A free craft-making session for teens and adults. Do you need a center piece for your holiday dinner? How about making a unique gift? Come and learn how to make a holiday tree from a discarded book.

A Documentary by Brenda Avila-Hanna. Come join us for an afternoon of watching this amazing documentary! The Director is then going to be on hand for Q&A after the film is aired. Brenda Avila-Hanna: Director, Producer, Cinematography and Editing. Brenda has written and directed several short films in New Mexico and Mexico City. Her short film, "Watch," was the winner for the Best Student Film Award at the 2007 Sin Fronteras Albuquerque Latino Film Festival. She graduated from the University of New Mexico in 2008 with a B.A. in Media Arts. She has worked for several years in community outreach programs for bicultural communities in the Albuquerque area. Brenda recently finished an M.A. in Social Documentation at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Teen Filmmaking Workshop

Starts October 3 & 4
Cesar Chavez Library: Fridays, 3-6pm
John Steinbeck Library: Saturdays, 2-5pm

Free filmmaking workshops for teens on Fridays & Saturdays. Teens will learn script writing, directing, production, and editing with Final Cut Pro. Contact Marissa for more information at (831)758-7319. Participation can also count towards community service hours.
Writer's Workshop With Jimmy Santiago Baca

September 8 - 12 & 15-19
4:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Poet and author Jimmy Santiago Baca will conduct a free, 10 day class exploring different ways to create a compelling memoir. Open to residents of Salinas, California, 18 years and older. There are a limited number of spaces. To apply, submit an application at any Salinas Library by 6pm, August 18, 2014 with a short one-page narrative explaining why you are interested in this class.
