#LitLibLoot is a no cost book subscription program for teens. When you sign up you will receive 2-3 YA books picked specifically for you. While any library items included in the subscription must be returned, all the special mystery loot is yours to keep!

Teen Book Club

Are you a teen interested in reading just for the fun of it? Stop by the Cesar Chavez Library and pick up a copy of our latest Teen Book Club title. Book discussions are are held every other month in the libraries or on field trips. You can also make recommendations for upcoming Teen Book Club titles! 

Must be in 9th-12th grade to participate. 

Computer Class Tutor/Assistant

Bridge the digital divide by helping adults learn basic to intermediate computer skills. Help students learn how to type, use the internet, learn English language skills online and even aid with their employment search process. Instruction is given on an individual and small group basis at 

  • John Steinbeck, Cesar Chavez, and USCredit Union (in place of El Gabilan)
  • Morning - evening classes
  • Individual instruction is flexible and dependent on volunteer availability

Teen Collab Group

Are you a high school student looking for a fun way to earn community service hours? Join our Cesar Chavez Library Teen Collab Group! Our overall goals include to participate in simple community service projects, such as helping the Friends of the Salinas Public Library restock our Little Libraries, and organizing library programs for teens. Meetings are held monthly on the 

  • First and third Thursdays
  • Cesar Chavez Library
  • 4:00-6:00 pm

"What Do We Have for You Today?"

Assist with the day-to-day needs of our libraries.  Tasks vary by site but may include collection support, arts and crafts, shelving, cleaning and even helping with special events!  Positions are available at our 

  • John Steinbeck and Cesar Chavez Libraries
  • Regular library hours

Citizenship Class Tutor (16+)

Transform lives by preparing students for their Naturalization Test. Serve as a guide through the naturalization process by tutoring students on American History, giving mock interviews, and helping improve their reading, writing and verbal skills. Instruction is available on an individual and group basis. Classes are held at 

  • Tuesday and Thursday
  • Cesar Chavez Library
  • Evening Hours
  • Individual instruction is flexible and dependent on volunteer availability.

Adult Literacy Tutor (16+)

Assist adults in improving their basic reading skills so they can achieve their personal goals and develop their potential.  With improved literacy, so many doors are opened for adults in our community.  Help someone build their future as an Adult Literacy Tutor!  Positions are available at

  • Monday - Friday
  • John Steinbeck and Cesar Chavez Libraries
  • Varying hours

Homework Centers (16+)

Foster academic excellence by becoming a tutor at one of our four afterschool Homework Centers.  Help support the learning of 1st–6th grade students in subjects like Math, English, and Science. Assigned Homework Centers may include Cesar Chavez Library, Sherwood, Roosevelt and Los Padres Elementary Schools. Typical schedule is between

  • Monday - Friday
  • Cesar Chavez Library and Local Elementary Schools
  • 2:00 - 5:30 pm
  • Hours may vary slightly by site

Tech on Demand (16+)

Provide one-on-one tech support to local community members by answering questions about iPhones, Androids, Tablets, E-readers, eBooks, Audiobooks or movies. Volunteer positions are available on 

  • Saturdays and Sundays
  • John Steinbeck and Cesar Chavez Libraries
  • 2:00 - 4:00 pm
