Snappy Visits the Library

Snappy the Tortoise is visiting from college and he is bringing 5 of his new friends to the John Steinbeck Library. Welcome Snappy and his college roommates from the Silicon Valley Turtle and Tortoise Club as they continue their mission to be Ambassadors for Turtles, helping to educate families about the lives of turtles.

Meet David Smith, author of "Peter Penguin," at the John Steinbeck Library in August. Peter Penguin dreams of leaving the Arctic to explore the rest of the world. He carves a boat out of ice and ventures off into the ocean. But when his boat begins to melt, an unexpected mammal comes to the rescue.

Bill Nemoyten, "The Hornman," plays instruments from 5 continents. He talks of his travels, the peoples, cultures, and their music. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy this multicultural music event, featuring horns from around the world, including:

a South Seas Conch Shell, Israeli Antelope Horn, Australian Dijeridu, Tibetan Ran-Dung, Bugle, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Baritone, Tuba, 12 foot long Swiss Alp Horn, and a "Hose-a-Phone."

Children are encouraged to participate by clapping, singing and mimicking the horns.
